The sylvanites are, much like the fairies, are a mixture of several races of intelligent woodland creatures which share a common habitat and a common gifting. The most common sylvanites are dryads, nymphs and satyr. They make their home in the bushland in Vahassa, where they live in perfect harmony with all the wondrous creatures that also make their home there, from mighty megafauna to the humblest honeybee. The sylvanites feel that they have been dually betrayed by humanity – firstly in their use of animals for meat, and then secondly in allowing gnolls to assault their forests for wood – although it is the orcs that primarily send gnolls to prey on the trees there. They have grown at best recalcitrant, at worst antagonistic, towards humankind and orc-kind, protecting their forest from any who would dare enter. They have accepted agriculture to assist in looking after their homeland, and faith and music have also sparked their interest. They completely eschew leatherwok because of its links with animal murder.
The sylvanites are as close to being one with the animals of their bushland home as any person might be with any creatures. Their natural gift of animal ken makes them not only able to train and work with animals, but to empathise and communicate with the baser creatures of the world.
Carna is their goddess, for obvious reasons.
